Definitions of the terms used on every page: legal, restricted, gray area, federal precedence, effectively prohibitive, fingerprint, verified date, KCPA, total THC, analog act.

The product can be sold at retail under the jurisdiction's current law as written, with no product-specific cap, license or form restriction beyond general consumer law. Status on this site means retail sellability, not possession or personal use.

Restricted (status)

Sale is allowed but conditioned: a potency or alkaloid cap, a licensing or registration requirement, an age floor, a labeling or testing rule, or a form limit (for example no smokable product). The page lists the limit and the instrument that sets it.

Gray area (status)

The product is sold in practice and no instrument names it, but an interpretive theory (analog act, "synthetic" or "isomer" language, total-THC definitions, a broad "psychoactive" clause) could reach it. The page states the theory. Gray is reported as exposure, never as legal.

Illegal (status)

Sale is prohibited by statute, administrative rule, emergency order or scheduling. The controlling instrument is quoted on the page.

Not yet verified (status)

No determination is on file for this compound and jurisdiction. The site reports unknown as unknown and never displays it as legal. Such pages carry a noindex tag until a verified row exists.

Federal precedence

When a compound is scheduled federally (permanently or by temporary order), every state page reports illegal and keeps the state-law reading underneath, labeled. State law never overrides a federal schedule listing for retail sale.

Effectively prohibitive

A rule that does not ban the compound by name but, as written, makes the product as sold unlawful in practice (for example an alkaloid-fraction cap that commercial extracts exceed, or an in-state-origin requirement). Reported as restricted with the reason stated.

Controlling instrument

The statute section, administrative code section, scheduling order or emergency rule that decides the status. Each page quotes it verbatim with its official URL, retrieval date and fingerprint.

Fingerprint (text hash)

The SHA-256 of the normalized stored text of an instrument. Automated checks re-read the live official source; a changed fingerprint means the law text changed and the row is flagged for review.

Verified date

The later of the last human verification of the row and the last automated check that found the controlling text unchanged. It is the "as of" date in every answer sentence.

Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA)

A model state law regulating kratom products: age floors, labeling, bans on adulteration, and in most versions a cap on 7-hydroxymitragynine as a share of total alkaloids (commonly 2 percent). States adopt it with local variations; the page cites the enacted version.

Total THC

A definition that counts THCa as THC (delta-9 THC plus 0.877 times THCa). States that define hemp by total THC treat high-THCa flower as marijuana even when delta-9 alone is under 0.3 percent.

Analog act

A statute that treats a substance "substantially similar" in structure and effect to a scheduled substance as if it were scheduled, usually only when intended for human consumption. The main source of gray-area exposure for research compounds.

Temporary scheduling

A DEA order placing a substance in Schedule I for up to two years (extendable) after a notice of intent and a 30-day window. A notice of intent is not law; the order on publication is.

OFFICIAL vs MIRROR source

OFFICIAL means the text was retrieved from the government publisher (legislature, code reviser, agency, Federal Register, eCFR). MIRROR means a non-government copy was used because no official copy was reachable; it is labeled and queued for re-sourcing.

Compound Laws, published by Compound Analytics, reports the record: statutes verbatim, official citations, enforcement facts and verification dates. Nothing here is legal advice and nothing here describes how to get around a law. A jurisdiction with no verified row is reported as not yet verified, never as legal. Found an error?
