As of October 7, 2026, 5-MAPB is in a legal gray area (sold in practice, exposed to an interpretive ban theory) in Ohio. Gray/analog-exposed: controlled-substance-analog treated as Schedule I. Controlling source: ORC Sec. 3719.013 - Controlled substance analog (treated as Schedule I).
Verified October 7, 2026 (manual) · confidence: confirmedMechanism: operative controlled-substance-analog statute. ORC 3719.013 provides a controlled substance analog, to the extent intended for human consumption, is treated as a Schedule I controlled substance; ORC 3719.01(Z) supplies the analog definition (substantially similar structure to a Schedule I/II CDS AND substantially similar/greater CNS effect); the offenses at 2925.03 and 2925.11 deploy it. Basis: INTERPRETIVE - 5-MAPB is not named and no benzofuran/phenethylamine structural class captures it (OAC 4729:9-1-01(D) names 5-APB/6-APB/5-APDB/6-APDB but not their N-methyl homolog 5-MAPB, which is not an isomer of 5-APB), so reach depends on applying the analog test with Schedule I MDMA/MDA as the anchor. TRAP: the benzofuran ring is not a substituted phenyl, so no generic phenethylamine/methylenedioxy class reaches it; capture runs only through the analog statute. Loose zone: whether a fused-furan benzofuran is 'substantially similar in structure' to MDMA/MDA's methylenedioxyphenyl is expert- and prosecution-dependent. Correction vs seed: none substantive - seed's restricted/analog call and both ORC cites confirmed verbatim against official Ohio Laws (3719.01 current version eff. Mar. 20, 2026 per S.B. 56 re-verified).

Dec. 20, 2012). The "controlled substance analog" definition (R.C. 3719.01) uses the federal-style "substantially similar chemical structure" + "substantially similar … hallucinogenic effect" to a Schedule I/II substance.
